My Spring Grocery Guide

I’m 21-years-old and I’m more of a grandma than my actual grandma. My grandma goes to sleep later than I do and one of my prime ideas of a good time is grocery shopping… I take the term “old soul” directly on my sleeve and wear it proudly straight to the produce section.

Shopping seasonally is one of my most valuable money-saving grocery tips! When produce is out of season, even if it’s available to buy, it costs a whole lot more than it did a couple of months ago. Aside from saving a little bit of money, eating seasonally and locally is also an easy way to help the environment. By buying foods that are grown locally, the demand for importing out-of-season produce goes down. No one is perfect and I’ll be the first to admit that I’d gladly be caught eating avocados in the middle of December, but it’s always good to keep the financial and environmental impacts of our grocery habits in mind!!

Below you’ll find a couple of super fresh foods that I’m currently loving!!

My Spring Grocery Guide

Fruits:

  • Apples

  • Avocado (“Yes, an avocado is a fruit” -Google)

  • Bananas

  • Berries!!! Strawberries, raspberries, bluebs, and blackberries, oh MY. I’ll gladly go to my grave with berry-stained fingers and have a smile on my face forever.

  • Dried figs (Normal figs are the best, but I rarely come across those)

  • Medjool Dates

  • Oranges (We have a navel orange tree in our backyard, but you won’t catch me without blood oranges this time around)

Veggies:

  • Asparagus (Ever since coming home from Germany, I’ve been obsessed. Asparagus is nothing new to me, but Germans LOVE their asparagus in the spring. And now I do, too)

  • Beets

  • Broccoli

  • Brussels sprouts

  • Carrots

  • Celery

  • Edamame

  • Green onions/scallions (Chop and put on some avocado toast. So fresh!)

  • Snap peas

  • Spinach

  • Sweet potatoes & yams

Herbs:

  • Basil

  • Dill

  • Parsley

  • Rosemary

Pantry:

  • Coconut flour (One of the cheapest flours! Good source of fat and an even better item to have on hand for a little fresh twist in some spring baking)

  • Granulated honey

  • Oats

  • Sunflower seeds

Fridge:

  • Coconut aminos

  • Tomato basil pasta sauce

  • Traditional hummus (To go with all the veggies. Hello, crudités. I love you)

I hope this helps you navigate your way through the grocery store next time you go. If you need some ideas on how to turn these foods into meals, hop on over to my instagram!!
