Caramelized Applesauce

Caramelized Applesauce

400g cubed apples (about 2 medium apples worth)

1 tbsp coconut oil, melted and cooled (if you don’t have coconut oil, feel free to use a good quality butter!)

3 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp sea salt

Instructions:

Wash and cube apples (do not remove the skin, there’s no point for that)

Heat a pan on a medium low flame

Toss in coconut oil, cinnamon and sea salt

To the pan, add the apples along with 1 tbsp water. Cover and steam for 5 minutes

Stir, then reduce to a low flame and cover for another 5 minutes

Remove from heat and allow to cool completely

Blend to desired texture (the mixture will be thick so you’ll have to scrape the sides down a few times, don’t add extra liquid to maintain that classic applesauce consistency)

Serve by the spoonful, on top of some pancakes, smeared on a toasted slice of sourdough, or in a future cookie recipe I have coming your way ;)
