Growing Up & Growing Better
One of the greatest people I know is moving out of state this week. On Sunday our friends ate fresh pasta and a fresh summery salad, we talked about our favorite moments with Lyss.
The immediate memory that came to mind was this day in particular. We drove lord knows how long further into the verdant scenes of coastal Washington (a dream!) Lyss & I kept talking about how the day felt like heaven. Perfect and whole but simple, so very real and so very unreal at the same time. This whole trip felt like all the best parts of life itself in only a few days.
After having spent this last weekend together (which was also a series of incredible days) and looking through photos from over the years, I can’t begin to describe the love I have for this friend. Eating dinner together on her living room floor, celebrating life, savoring the best music, sitting on park benches, laughing at all the random things (especially the word “cioppino,” though actually eating cioppino was great too).
Selfless in nature. Unfairly funny. A magnet for good people. The one person who spends days appreciating colors, the way light comes through trees & admiring brick buildings with me. All with a Topo in hand! One of the absolute best people to walk this earth. One of the people who have taught me to love this life, love others & love myself so hard, so big. The one who will never shy away from pointing out even the smallest win to make sure I see it too.
I can’t wait to come see you, Lyss. I love you big time baby!
